Song Feel’s solo exhibition TIME COLLECTED is currently on view at HORI ART SPACE through October 10.
Throughout his practice, Song has shifted primary materials in roughly ten-year cycles—evolving from cowhide and fiber-reinforced plastic to stone, bronze, and most recently stainless steel and crystal.
While his medium continually expands, his core thematic investigation remains unchanged: observing the human condition as a being that longs to take root while constantly remaining in flux.
Song’s artistic narrative stems from a pivotal childhood memory of his hometown being submerged beneath a dam.
This sense of displacement condenses into concentric circles etched across stainless steel surfaces, evoking the ripples of flowing and vanishing water rather than a static image of liquid.
Loss evolves into resilience through a monumental baobab tree constructed from over 3,300 crystals, symbolizing the capacity to take root even in barren terrain.
The narrative comes full circle with the image of the plum blossom, the first flower to bloom as winter ends, offering quiet witness to the truth that whatever is lost will eventually take root again.
The exhibition title, TIME COLLECTED, reflects this accumulation of memory inscribed onto non-corrosive surfaces.
Spanning the building’s façade, interior galleries, and outdoor terrace, the installation integrates bronze casts of gathered tree bark that freeze moments of time into permanent form.
To offer a different perspective on these works, HORI ART SPACE will host a special evening viewing during Samcheong Night on September 3, remaining open until 10:00 PM.
The event will feature a drink reception and light catering on the fourth-floor terrace alongside Song’s sculptures.
Song Feel earned his BFA and MFA in Sculpture from the College of Fine Arts at Kyung Hee University. Over a distinguished career, he has presented 22 solo exhibitions and featured in more than 100 group exhibitions globally.
In South Korea, his works have been exhibited at prominent art institutions and galleries including HORI ART SPACE, POSCO Art Museum, Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Arts Center KUH, and Gallery Sejul.
Internationally, his exhibitions extend to major contemporary art spaces in China, including the Shangshang Art Museum in Songzhuang and the ZERO Art Center in Beijing.
Recognized early during his academic training with a Special Prize at the Figurative Sculpture Grand Exhibition, Song cemented his position as a prominent figure in Korean sculpture upon winning the Gu Bonju Art Award in 2015.
His career has been supported by competitive artist-in-residence programs, including the Jangheung Sculpture Residency (2014–2015) and the Youngeun Museum Residency (2019–2020).
Song’s sculptures are held in notable public and corporate collections across South Korea and internationally.
Domestic collections include the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Youngeun Museum, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Chang Ucchin Museum of Art Yangju, Pohang Museum of Steel Art, the MMCA Art Bank at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Zoimaru, and the JW Marriott Hotel.
International collections include Poly Auction, MANET Art Museum, and the Wang Huaxiang Art Museum in Beijing, alongside Zendai MOMA in Shanghai.
