An exhibition of paintings by artist Kang Dal-rye based on books began on the 18th of this month and will continue until the 30th at Chungbuk Hall on the second floor of the Insa Art Center (41-1 Insadong-gil), south korea.
On the 17th, the artist shared her thoughts on the exhibition at the DP.
Kang's exhibition consists of oil and acrylic paintings that express the importance of time.
Most of the works are story-rich with characters, and the characters are depicted in different boxes or real or imaginary spaces in the artist's memory. This allows viewers to imagine a blend of virtual and real reality.
Regarding these works, Kang emphasized that each book on the bookshelf symbolizes an individual's time.

"I traveled to Africa once and instinctively felt that time was being wasted," Kang explains. "That's what inspired me to paint the preciousness of time."

Dealing with life is philosophical and difficult. To approach it more easily in my paintings, I work on a flat surface. I think there is not much difference between how we are born and how we die. We are born as one being. However, I think the life process between birth and death is different for each person."
"I believe that within those different life processes, each person will have their own shining moment. I tried to show time in my work through the past, present, and future. I try to create my own virtual world in every piece. Children, for example, really like to imagine. I want viewers to visualize the artist's intentions and imagine themselves while looking at my work," Kang said about the exhibition and its purpose.

Kang said that initially, she focused on recording her own time by reflecting it in her paintings. After her horizons widened, however, she started to record other people's time in her paintings.
Meanwhile, Kang's exhibition will continue to the 30th of this month. The exhibition is open for viewing and on-site purchases from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during this period.
